This blog is to serve as a place where all of the things I apply myself to converge. A place where you can keep up to date on everything I do be it illustration, jewellery design, leatherwork, taxidermy or even just a look through the things I collect or spend my free time doing.
A little bit of background for those unfamiliar with me and my work: I graduated with an Honours degree from the University of Worcester, UK in animal biology & ecology in 2008. During my time at Worcester Uni, I spent some time in Wales learning what would form the basis of my taxidermy skills. I am a self taught jewellery designer/maker and leatherworker and, having spent my entire life drawing, painting and sculpting, I also count illustration among my main creative outlets and skills. I own and run two jewellery labels, operate as an illustrator under the alias SugarMilk and, as well as working part time as a barista locally (in order to maintain SOME contact with the outside world and afford my penchant for travel & shoes) I also teach art to children and adults alike & occasionally do hair (random, maybe… but it harks back to about 10 years ago when I ran my own hair design business specialising in handmade hair pieces, synthetic dreadlocks and accessories. Old habits die hard I guess). I am currently retraining myself in fine metalwork. Formal qualifications include A Levels in Art, Textiles, Biology & Economics, a foundation diploma in art & design, BSc(Hons) animal biology & ecology and modular certification from BST in mammal and bird taxidermy. I am an avid collector of natural history artefacts, occult paraphernalia, religious items and antiques- especially those dating back to the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras.
So, that’s enough about me. This blog will be an even spread between personal work, things that I get up to and see, work that I do for others and official goings on regarding Sacré Coeur, Mignonette and SugarMilk. It is still currently a work in progress so please bear with me while I add pages and links to other sites etc. This is a transitional period for me with many changed underway and big launches and relaunches on the horizon. Hang around if you’re curious or interested, you might see something you like!
